How to Choose the Right Sofa for Your Space

30th, December 2019

Shopping for a sofa is never easy because there are too many factors to consider. A sofa that looks good, both aesthetically and on its price tag - just might not suit your body making it uncomfortable. A sofa is a place of relaxation, a place to unwind after a long day of work so why sacrifice your comfort? There’s also the mistake of shopping for comfort to only get tired of looking at the sofa because of its colour. Sofas should be practical for your wallet, your body, and your home.

If you’re considering buying a new sofa, these are the top factors to think about so it can check all of the boxes…

You only have so much space to work with so it’s recommended to have a minimum and maximum size in your mind before you go shopping. A sofa should still allow for space around it, but it should also fit all house dwellers at one given time.

Assuming there will be other pieces of furniture around or near your sofa, it’s best to get something that can work with everything else, especially when it comes to height to match with your coffee table and so that people sitting in other seat are at the same level. When thinking about height, note that your feet should touch the floor comfortably when sitting upright.

When you know where you will place your sofa, you can get a better idea of what style to go for. For example, sectional, floating, or half circle. It’s always good to map out plan of your new living area.

I’m sure you agree that your sofa should match the colours and style of the room it will be in. When you go shopping, it’s good to have a swatch of your room’s main colours so you can put it against the sofa to see how well they go together.

Last but not least, SIT! Don’t be shy and make sure to sit on every sofa you’re considering for a few minutes to test its comfort, firmness, height, etc. The right one will come along before you know it!
